MSSS and Sheptytsky Institute 1974 - 2010
* * * This web page was developed by the MSSS in 2002 to highlight the function of the Pastoral Ministry office and to keep residents and youth informed of campus and Eparchial activities.
At this time, information remains on-line for archive purposes.
For current information, the Ministry office should be contacted.
A special "Divine Liturgy" page was also developed which highlighted activities of St. Andrew Chapel located at Sheptytsky Institute.
Pastoral Ministry (Archive)
As early as 1993, an Eparchial Youth Ministry office was located in the Ukrainian Catholic Religious Education Centre. In 2001, a joint initiative with the Metropolitan Sheptytsky Society of Saskatchewan, the Ukrainian Catholic Episcopal Corporation and St Thomas More College, established a Campus Ministry position which would represent Ukrainian Catholics on the U of S campus ministry team as well as participate in residence programming. In 2002 the Eparchial youth coordinator position was combined with the Campus Ministry position and, is still located at Sheptytsky Institute.
This ministry aims to be a pastoral presence of the Ukrainian Catholic Church on campus and to minister to the needs of the post-secondary students, faculty and staff in Saskatoon. Ukrainian Catholic Campus Ministry seeks to provide an environment that nurtures spiritual, moral, liturgical and sacramental development according the tradition of the Ukrainian Catholic Church. We offer opportunities for worship, fellowship, outreach and education geared towards helping students reach their full potential.
What does Ukrainian Catholic Campus Ministry have to offer you?
Divine Liturgy is celebrated at St Andrew, the Apostle of Ukraine Chapel at Sheptytsky Institute (2nd floor, 1236 College Drive) most Sundays during the academic year. Contact the Institute for the most current Liturgical Schedule. (306-653-1711).
Programs and Events
The Ukrainian Catholic Campus Minister works closely with the University of Saskatchewan campus ministry team to offer a range of spiritual programs, events and opportunities. Some of which are as follows:
There are a number of Gospel Reflection / Scripture Study groups on campus.
Come out for a movie, munchies and discussion on various Tuesday evenings during the term.
A number of retreats are offered throughout the year, including the Busy Person’s Retreat (during Lent), and Twilight Retreats (a Friday evening retreat held once per term).
If you are interested in putting faith into action, we can connect you to many groups and programs on campus to meet your needs.
Campus ministry is somewhere safe to talk. Whether you’re stressed about exams, having trouble with relationships, are worried about money, or just want to talk, you will find a listening ear. The Campus Ministry door at Sheps is always open with a standing invitation to join the campus minister for lunch or coffee and a snack. From this office you can also be referred to professionals located at the Student Health centre on campus.
